Well the truck is on it's way. Did about an hour or so of carving and sanding to get this far.

A good start
well I'm a day or two too late with the photo. Got a good start on the base of the sign, now it's on to the main ingredient.

New stuff made old
A few years ago I was into making "antique" signs. I did quite a few for the Rogue Valley Family Fun Center in Central Point and a few for Gates Furniture in Grants Pass.
These are made from new materials but abraded and sanded and dinged up to look much older than they are.
I have also done similar signs for residential markers and gifts.
first step
Well after procrastinating for a few days I got started on the 40 acres sign. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

40 acres
I am starting another sample sign. This one , as was the triceratops sign, is heavily inspired by fellow sign maker in Canada, Dan Sawatzky. Dan is an amazing sign artist specializing in over the top dimensional signage.

My version will include a 1940 ford pickup and will hang in my stepdads garage where, hopefully, it will be seen by other car nuts and lead to more custom signs.

final details
Today I did the final glue up and pocketed a french cleat in the
back of the sign and placed it on the small display wall in my office

El Finito
Well the first challenge for 2011 is done
a sample sign to hang in my shop to show prospective clients
what JP Graphics is capable of. Hopefully I can do at least six of these
this year.

This sign was made with precision board manufactured by coastal enterprises
